The first time I met Yvonne was through a program conducted for students who were not doing well academically in polytechnic. The program was meant to teach us personal leadership and set goals for ourselves in life. Having Yvonne as my trainer made the entire program very interesting and fun. Her personal anecdotes, experiential learning and unorthodox teaching methods helped me remember what is being taught during the program. After that program, I did manage to pull up my grades and was clearer of what I had wanted to do in life.

If I were to describe Yvonne as a mentor, it would be “tough love”. Yvonne never allowed me to take the easy way out and expected nothing less than me giving off my best. She placed me in countless uncomfortable situations for me to grow. But her constant faith and belief in me made me desire to do better for others as well as myself.
